1990-1998: TECO Europe Ltd

Employed as Sales & Marketing Manager, preparing proposals, negotiating contracts, preparing sales material and exhibition stand arrangements, publicity, etc. The Company's principal field of activity is the design and construction of glass melting furnaces of all types, extending upstream to batch plants and downstream to forehearths, forming lines, etc. as required. Also giving assistance to parent company (TECO-Toledo Engineering Co Inc) in specialist technical matters and in the preparation of technical documentation. Presentation of technical papers at Conferences and Symposia when required.

1968-1990: Woodall Duckham Ltd, later Babcock Contractors Ltd

Initially employed in Commercial Development to expand involvement with the Glass Industry, then in Sales and Marketing of Glass Fibre Plant, other Glass Manufacturing Plant (in association with TECO) and various Industrial Processes. Main role that of Process Technologist, Glass. In 1985 became Director and General Manager of Babcock Spraymixer Ltd, producing a specialist plant, particularly for milk powder processing. In 1986 combined this work with Computing Services, carrying out training in new database programmes and setting up a marketing database system. Market investigations and feasibility studies were undertaken in a number of fields.

1963-1968: Turner Brothers Asbestos Co Ltd

Initially Senior Glass Technologist then, in 1964, appointed Manager, Glass Research. Responsible for a 15-strong department with a detachment in Northern Ireland. Helped to establish a successful E-Glass melting operation, and supervised the development of a range of continuous filament fibre products, including rovings, chopped strand mat, woven fabrics and yarns.

1959-1963: British Glass Industry Research Association (BGIRA)

Scientific Officer in the Glass Melting Section, working principally on the Solubility of Gases in Glass. Also worked on colouring effects of multi-valent ions and Ligand Field Theory, melting of special glasses, glass refining programme, etc.

1957-1959: Humphreys and Glasgow Ltd

Construction Engineer in the Sheffield Area, running sites at various locations, including the installation of Onia Gegi catalytic oil gasification plant at Meadowhall and Dinnington, pipelines for Underground Gasification at Newman Spinney, conversion of Carburetted Water Gas Plant to run on PFD, coal and coke handling plants, etc.
